Glittering Zsolnay tiles, soaring towers, and dozens of sculpted figures turn this luxury hotel into a true showstopper of the city.
Budapest Old City Hall
Step back and take in this seemingly endless baroque facade! It began life as a grand home for wounded and retired soldiers, modeled on the famous Invalides houses of Paris and Prague. Meet Rézi, the city's favorite fishmonger! The old fishermen's guild commissioned this charming fountain, and she once stood near the river at a bustling fish market. She clutches her catch and a net, while a ship's wheel waits behind her. After decades away in a city park, she happily returned home to this cozy little square.
Vörösmarty Statue
Hungary's beloved poet holds court in the heart of the square! Carved from gleaming Carrara marble, he sits surrounded by everyday Hungarians, from a farmer to a peasant girl, all gathered to hear his words. His poem the Szózat is a national treasure, and the elegant Café Gerbeaud keeps him company from the north side.
Pesti Vigadó
Behold the grandest party palace in Pest! Its architect dreamed of a truly Hungarian style, and the result is a romantic concert hall dripping with folk motifs, crests, and carved heroes. Muses perch on the pillars above the central arcade, while famous faces from Hungarian history gaze down at the square. Find the playful boys too!
Little Princess Statue
Perched on the Danube railing sits the city's most charming royal! The sculptor was inspired by his eldest daughter, who played dress-up with a bathrobe draped over her shoulders and a crown on her head. Her sisters live in the sculptor's hometown and in Tokyo, but this riverside princess steals hearts here every single day.
Sándor Petőfi Statue
Meet the fiery young poet whose words helped spark a revolution! He raises his arm mid-recitation of the National Song, cast in bronze on a grey granite pedestal. The whole nation chipped in to build this monument, and a famous violinist gave concerts to raise most of the money. It is still a rallying point for celebrations.
