 Cuenca was founded in 1557 atop ancient Inca ruins—the city’s name means 'basin,' inspired by it's location among four converging rivers. It's Centro Histórico is so well preserved that UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site.
The famous Panama hat actually hails from here; artisans have been weaving these stylish hats from paja toquilla for
